Visibility Rides are back!

Share The Road Billboard Las Cruces!

We are happy to announce that the Share the Road Las Cruces Visibility Rides are back, the first Monday of the month.

The Share the Road Las Cruces (STRLC) Visibility Rides were rolled out in December 2008 as a monthly event to support the Share the Road Las Cruces Educational Campaign. The ride is a real-life, real-time demonstration of how bicyclists can safely ride with traffic. Additionally, it has begun to raise awareness among motorists of the presence of cyclists, of motorists’ ability to safely share the road with cyclists, and of how cyclists behave while riding among vehicles while following traffic laws.

Share the Road! Thanks to LAB League Certified Instructors and MVBC volunteers Tammy Schurr and George Pearson a STRLC Visibility Ride will be held the first Monday of each month except for Independence Day, Labor Day and New Years Day 2012.

MyLasCrucesWeekly.com printed a great article about the coalition and area events.   Hopefully this is a small step in addressing the issues of cycling in the city.  Click here to view the article.

Triviz Bike Lane Removed

Norm Dettlaff/Sun-News

In what appears to be a reversal of attitudes, the City of Las Cruces has removed the north-bound bicycle lane on the northern-end of Triviz Dr.  An increase of rear-end collisions was given as the reason.

What is even worse is that the idea that bicycles need to be on the pedestrian path adjacent to the road is perpetuated.

Raising Awareness

Dr. Okerblom and his Son

Please join us tomorrow morning, March 16th,  at The Bean in Mesilla at 8:30AM to ride a few miles with Dr. Bob Okerblom.  He is riding across the country to promote awareness of the dangers of driving while texting.  Dr. Okerblom’s 19 ear old son was hit and killed in 2009 by a texting driver. Let’s all join him tomorrow, Wednesday, as he leaves Las Cruces to ride to El Paso. You can read more about it at the link below.
